InterTabac & InterSupply celebrate the comeback of the year
Following a two-year absence, the tobacco industry is looking forward to what promises to be the comeback of the year at Messe Dortmund as the global tobacco industry flagship shows InterTabac and InterSupply open to visitors between 15 and 17 September, featuring over 600 bookings for the twin shows (including 160 first-time exhibitors in Dortmund, some of whom are exhibiting for the first time in the international and European markets). The shows at Messe Dortmund will also be welcoming two superstars – one from Germany and one from the US.
Dortmund, 15 September 2022 – Following a two-year enforced break due to Covid, InterTabac and InterSupply are now back with a vengeance with over 600 exhibitors from 69 countries taking over nine halls of the Messe Dortmund exhibition centre between 15 and 17 September as they meet trade visitors, business partners and the media. Once they convene in person at the venue, the focus will switch to engaging, networking, presenting and sampling a veritable host of new products. Exhibitors and visitors alike can also look forward to innovations such as the International Cigar Pavilion as well as the tried-and-trusted programme – rich in diversity – consisting of interesting keynote talks, discussion forums and comprehensive information on current trends and matters of interest in the industry. A visit cannot fail to be worthwhile, and accordingly the twin shows are attracting the who's who of the tobacco industry. Two absolute superstars – from the US and Germany – also don't want to miss this comeback of the year: several-times world champion boxer Mike Tyson will be visiting InterTabac on Friday 16 September at the Futurola stand to promote his own collection, and German Hollywood actor and former body-builder Ralf Moeller will also be appearing at the twin shows as a star guest on Saturday 17 September to accompany visitors on a free tour of the halls and pose for photos at the social media wall in the complex's remodelled North Entrance.
For over 40 years now, InterTabac has been established as the world's largest trade show for tobacco products and smoking accessories. In 2015 it was joined by the new break-out show InterSupply – which has been held in parallel ever since – as the international show focusing on the manufacturing processes behind tobacco products, e-cigarettes, pipes and hookahs.
Experience the full diversity in 9 halls
This year, exhibitors at the twin shows are occupying a total of nine halls. As ever at InterTabac and InterSupply, the classic segment – featuring cigars, cigarettes, pipes, pipe tobacco and fine cut tobacco – is out in strength again this year, occupying the largest area at Messe Dortmund with Halls 4 to 7. Here, complementing established and long-standing exhibitors, are many new companies presenting their wares to trade visitors in the various halls and also in the International Cigar Pavilion which is a new feature at InterTabac this year, bringing together some exclusive names such as JRE Tobacco, Black Star Line Cigars, Blue Mountain Cigars and Cornelio Cigar. The subject-matter focus in the 'classic segment' this year is on selected cigars from family-run hand-made production facilities, limited editions and new, high-quality designs for pipe lovers.
In the adjacent Hall 6, visitors will find everything associated with the 'point of sale'. Here, various exhibitors addressing the specialist retail sector and large wholesalers will be giving retailers and other interested parties a comprehensive overview of current topics and trends. Naturally, this will include shop fittings and cash register systems for retail outlets as well as supplementary ranges that include press products, spirits and lighters.
In the Westfalenhalle and in Halls 1 and 2, visitors will find the next-generation products (NGPs), which are very much in vogue and have been complementing the classic segments for several years now. NGPs include heat-not-burn products, everything related to vaping, e-cigarettes and e-liquids, as well as potentially risk-reduced products (PRRPs) and cannabidiol (CBD). Snus – a popular product in Scandinavia – will also be presented at the show. One special feature will be the opportunity to sample different products and flavours – as in the other halls, sampling is very much encouraged here. For example, retailers and wholesalers will have the opportunity to take away inspiration for their own ranges – even beyond the classic segment.
Hall 8 and part of Hall 6 will be playing host this year to shisha/hookah suppliers and associated accessory products such as charcoal.
In Hall 3, the InterSupply hall, visitors can discover the comprehensive offerings relating to the manufacturing processes behind tobacco products and liquids as well as processing and packaging. Here, as in the other halls, there are dozens of new exhibitors to discover.
Access to all nine halls is via three entrances and exits: as in previous years, visitors are welcome to use the main entrance to the Westfalenhalle or the North or West entrances ('Eingang Nord' or 'Eingang West'). All these entrances will take visitors quickly and conveniently to exhibitors in both shows.
Comprehensive programme for trade visitors and other interested parties
As well as new exhibitors, products and trends, visitors can look forward to a comprehensive programme of events covering all the current topics and challenges facing the industry. It has been developed together with leading industry experts and thus has real added value for everyone.
In the classic segment, the Cigar & Rum Pairing on 15 and 16 September is an opportunity to sample, smoke and sniff. Experts will be creating entirely new taste experiences for trade visitors with unusual combinations and offering ideas for customer advisory sessions in the retail trade, among other things in combination with spirits. The pairings will take place between 15:30 and 17:00 hrs on both 15 and 16 September in the Bergen Conference Room in the North Entrance ('Eingang Nord') complex. In an exciting talk entitled “How the west was won” on 16 September, Scott Pearce and Josh Habursky from the Premium Cigar Assocation in the US will present the strategies their organisation has successfully used to combat overregulation by the US federal government in the premium cigar segment.
There is also an exciting programme to look forward to in the NGP segment. Two special items have been created in partnership with trade journal Deutsche Tabakzeitung (DTZ) and will be hosted exclusively by editor-in-chief Marc Reisner, featuring some up-and-coming newcomers who will be introducing themselves in the NGP Speed Fire Presentations on 15 September starting at 13:30 hrs in the London/Bruges conference room. In the same room, leading industry experts will be discussing the current topic of cannabis in the Hemp Talk by DTZ at 11:00 hrs on 16 September.
Naturally, the political situation in the tobacco market also features prominently in the programme, with captivating insights into current e-cigarette regulations in China and how these are affecting the export market on 15 September at 15:00 hrs in the London/Bruges room at a presentation by Jason Q. Tian from e-cigarette platform 2FIRSTS. Key input on legal aspects of the NGP market will be given by lawyer Pablo Cano Trilla at 13.30 hrs on Friday – likewise in the London/Bruges conference room – in a talk entitled 'EU overview: market and regulatory trends about alternative tobacco products'. Directly afterwards, the European Confederation of Tobacco Retailers (CEDT) is holding an open discussion forum in the same room on cutting-edge topics such as nicotine pouches, cannabis light, tobacco heaters and e-cigarettes.
Hookah fans can look forward to a very special event, namely the Hookah Battle Europe Cup 2022. A panel of judges consisting of leading personalities from major international hookah businesses will decide which of the competing teams has built the best hookah at the event. The competition will be held on 16 September starting 16:00 hrs in the Novgorod Room in the North Entrance complex.
This varied supporting programme will be rounded off on 17 September with the InterTabac Stars award ceremony where candidates for the awards will be selected by visitors, and the product with the most votes will win the coveted accolade.
InterTabac & InterSupply always a worthwhile visit
Discovering innovations, trying out new products and getting a comprehensive overview of the current topics and trends in the tobacco industry: a visit to InterTabac and InterSupply is always a worthwhile experience. “In many conversations we've had over the last few months, we've been hearing how people in the tobacco industry at home and abroad have really missed InterTabac & InterSupply as a one-stop-shop event. Now they're back, and people are once again welcome to get together in Dortmund, try out new products and meet new suppliers. With over 600 bookings for the twin shows – including 160 first-time exhibitors in Dortmund – it's clear the industry is 100% behind the shows.
